Aerospace Redhill, Surrey Permanent ⁄ £55000 - £65000 As Lead Engineer of the Product Engineering team, reporting to the Technical Director,you will oversee new product design, development and validation testing for all our seating products. Technical problem solving. Co-ordinating build and test of assemblies and seats for development testing and evaluation. Test article BOM & drawing definition and output for development testing. Supplier development & technical support interface (capability, processes, materials selection etc.). Post seat delivery technical product support and problem solving. The role will consist of; • To lead a team of engineers and to be technically responsible for the products that you and your team are engineering. • To ensure that engineering tasks and projects adhere to programme timings and to the right quality. • Provide technical guidance and co-ordination to the design team and to have technical sign off of engineering changes and design releases generated within your team. • Support the Technical Director in the day to day running of the Product Engineering team. • To review aircraft seating design work utilising Catia V5, and CAE structural analyses. • Ensure that designs are carried out in accordance with the relevant EASA, FAA and Airframe Specifications. • Ensure the design meets the aesthetic and technical ambitions of the customer. • Be an effective communicator to ensure departmental requirements are met. • To liaise direct with OEM's, Aircraft Manufacturers and Key suppliers. • Defining, driving, planning, monitoring and controlling the output of the product engineering team for multiple design and development projects. To ensure achievement of the defined schedule and specification. • Lead, support and provide guidance to direct reports with the design and development of the aircraft seat, including the checking of designs and drawings, technical calculations, raising and managing ECR's, drawing sign off, ensuring accurate BOM output and authorising concessions where necessary. • Support the business by leading all technical activities in the support of all seating products in the field. • Supporting the day to day supervision of direct reports. This to include: Supporting regular 1-2-1 meetings, team meetings,goal and objective setting, personal development plans & appraisal reviews. • Supporting the Technical Director with recruitment. Who we're looking for Applicants for the Lead Engineer (Product Engineering)role will have; • Strong Mechanical or related Engineering degree. • Experience of managing a team of engineers (Lead Engineer level), driving deadlines and demonstrable experience of technical product ownership. • Experience of managing multiple technical projects concurrently. • Extensive experience from an aviation or automotive sector. • Extensive experience of a mechanical engineering related field utilising CAD for product design and development through to manufacture. • Must be capable of undertaking fundamental engineering hand calculations for example, stress analysis and reaction calculations • The ability to analyse problems and recommend a course of action • Sufficient exposure to the latest manufacturing techniques • Extensive 3D CAD capability and experience, preferably Catia V5 • Experience of FEA either through use or leading CAE engineers. • A good knowledge of CAE techniques. • Must be an excellent communicator both verbally and written • Must be capable of adapting to a fast and pressured environment Desirable • SmarTeam or other PDM experience • Experience of product testing and validation • Experience in working within an Aviation seating sector • Knowledge of design using composites • MS Project experience and capability About our client Acro Aircraft Seating are an innovative, award winning and rapidly expanding business.
