A bit of interesting info. A friend of mine at another company said they have just bought a system called "design data manager" or "DDM" from a company called CSI. They were initially looking (like us) at configuration management across multiple sites and when we researched EPDM we found that it was actually only 1 database and if we lost internet connection the whole thing toppled over.

He was raving so much about DDM that we entered into discussions with them. I had seen a quick online demo and was very impressed myself. They have now done their live demo and we are so impressed that we made a deal with the salesman in the meeting. The only negative is that they are so busy that they can't install us for weeks!
