With raw plastic prices on the up typical Chinese part costs are getting closer to UK costs. We have noticed there is still a great advantage for companies who want full assembly/packaging of their product (and of course tooling is still a big saving in most areas).

The problem is finding good 'all-round' suppliers in China. Many just focus on making the parts - not putting them all together into a product. Very few Chinese companies seem to be able to offer moulding AND assembly in-house. And of course having to deal with separate supply and assembly plants is no fun.... In fact I hear some moulding work is coming back to the UK because a) the part cost is about the same and b) managing assembly closer to home is less hassle.

      What are your experiences?

I don't agree your options, many goods have been assembly before them were shipped, and the cost is very lower in the china.
you will find the good assembly in the china in the future.
