Drawing Office Manager, Mechanical/Electrical Design Manager Drawing Office Manager As a leading international defence organisation we require a drawing office manager to lead the mechanical design activities & subcontractors within the aircraft business unit based in Broughton, Nr Chester. Raytheon Systems Limited Airborne Solutions business provides a turnkey capability for the modification of aircraft to install special mission equipment for a variety of customers. The programmes are varied and occupy all phases of development from initial scoping through development and certification to in-service support. The successful candidate will work as part of a design organisation that is approved under CAA, MAA and EASA requirements and will be involved with the design, production, verification (test and analysis) and certification activities. The drawing office manager is required to provide leadership of permanent and subcontract draughters involved in the design of aircraft mechanical & electrical modifications. The majority of modification packages will relate to mission system integration on to an established and certified air-platform. Leadership will involve day-to-day work scheduling, priority setting and progress reporting. In addition the drawing office manager will ensure design procedure adherence and the control of configuration of drawing office deliverables. The role requires knowledge of the full spectrum of mechanical & electrical installation design and drawing office techniques. In addition the drawing office manager will be relied upon to champion and drive the transition from a predominantly out sourced drawing office to an in house capability including the deployment of computer equipment and software and training/mentoring of staff. The drawing office manager should be capable of undertaking certain design office associated tasks, such as drawing checking and configuration management, as dictated by work load within the drawing office. Main Duties: Establish and maintain a drawing office detailed schedule and provide detail status of each drawing within the creation and approval process cycle. Work with the Programme Engineering Manager and Chief Engineer to ensure the Drawing Office is appropriately resourced (staff, equipment) to achieve committed work schedules. Be fully aware of design and drawing procedures and ensure all work is completed in compliance. Resolve drawing issues between reviewers/checkers and drawing originators to ensure a consistent yet compliant approach is achieved. Ensure the configuring of drawings and associated change is under strict control at all times. Provide a trusted contact source with production organisations for the resolution of drawing queries. Lead on communication and dissemination of information between the Head of Design (HoD, Programme Chief Engineer and specialists (stress, mechanical design, avionics/electrical design, aerodynamics) in addressing installation issues and any matter that could affect the practicality/producibilty of the design solution. Perform associated activities to support the programme during periods of high workload and staff absence, such as drawing checking and configuration management. Report on status and performance to programme and function senior management. Candidate Requirements: HND/HNC in a Scientific or Engineering discipline, preferably Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Similar appropriate experience may be acceptable. Be familiar with technical drawings (as a reviewer/manager) ideally in and aerospace/defence role. Experience of 2D and 3D draughting packages, knowledge of CATIA V5 and AUTOCAD is a plus. Ability to work with all levels of management. Ability to work confidently under pressure. Strong configuration management skills. Communication and presentation skills.
