Hey every body. I want to change torque direction 90 degree. I want to design a gear box for this purpose. please let me know what kind of gears (gearbox) is suitable to design ? 1- bevel gears 2- Helical gears the ratio of gearbox must be 2 please let me know advantage and disadvantage of each kind of gears. Regarding
Use bevel gears. When helical gears are used on crossed shafts, the teeth mate at a single point. They have very little load capacity in this configuration.
thanks Erich for your good information. actually adjusting bevel gear position is difficult and it has noise. I have designed a bevel gearbox for 90KW power and ratio 2 and input 1500 output 750. but it is straight bevel gears. it is noisy. do you have any Idea for adjusting and regulating bevel gears ?
Straight bevel gears will be noisier than spiral bevel or hypoid gears. This is because the teeth make contact all at once across the face rather than gradually. That said, Are the bearings on the both shafts axially preloaded so there is no slop in the shaft locations? How do you adjust the gear locations to set the mesh and control backlash? What gear tolerance class are they machined to? Have you run prussian blue on the teeth so you can visuallize the tooth contact area?
Erich the class quality of gear machining (Qv in AGMA) is 5. for adjusting gear , according to noise we adjust . the position with low noise was ok, is it true way for that ? could you tell me about prussian blue ?

Prussian blue is a good tool to check the gap between the teeth, and shows you the ratio of the contact area and the free space. However the bevel gears are more sensitive for the backlash as you noticed, but more common and easÃer to manufacture and utilize.
Hi there, Spiral Bevel Gears would be suitalbe to change torque direction 90 degree. And For better & Effective Efficiency. This gear makes it possible to change the operating angle(if neccesary). but the shafts bearings must be capable of supporting significant forces.
