I just like to share some experience. I've used different Geomagic products with different 3d scanners for some years.
Now I moved to a new company which doesn't use Geomagic itself, but what we do is we scan old machine parts, then proceed them in Solidworks, usually make some advancements and then manufacture the renewed detail. Something like restoration.
So we decided to use Geomagic to Solidworks plug-in. I allows tio import raw data directly from Artec Micro that we use (actuallyn as I know it supports direct point cloud export to any softwre that supports it). Well, the sad point it's not automatic, just helps you to half automate making the right plains and other surfaces based on point cloud. So I see this product as a younger version of Geomagic Design X. So if prepaing point cloud to use it in Solidworks there's no reason to overpay for the whole Design X anymore.
