Hello, this is my first post on the board. I'm a full-time student who is about to complete my degree in applied mathematics with a 3.4 gpa and a minor in mechanical engineering. I wanted to test my knowledge of mechanical engineering and so I recently took and passed the FE exam for mechanical. My question though, is can I get a job as a mechanical engineer with a degree in applied mathematics or do I need a degree in mechanical engineering even though I passed the FE? Second and final question, if I go back to school I have the opportunity to get a second bachelors degree in mechanical or a degree in mechanical with a minor in aerospace. I would love to work in the aerospace industry, but I wonder if the additional year required for the minor would be worth it, i.e. would an employer in the aerospace industry look at my degree in mechanical from New Mexico Tech and decide that they would rather hire someone with a degree in aerospace, but in contrast look at my degree from NMT with a minor in aerospace and hire me over someone with a degree in aerospace. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

You could do both. Apply for the jobs you want and if you don't get it go back to school.
