Exactly. I would like to get a full time job in another country. The truth is, I am not limited to the country I would like to go to because the situation here in Venezuela is quite critical. I would be willing to go to any other country that receives me and give me the opportunity to work and be able. Where you can speak or English or Spanish. But I do not limit myself to the language either, because I am willing to learn any other language.

Perhaps the most complicated is the immigration issue. But a work visa would help a lot. In Latin America the issue of migratory permits is less cumbersome, especially because the countries of the region understood our crisis and have been quite open and understanding to receive us.

Even at the beginning, I am open to work maybe in other areas that allow me to go climbing until I get to work as an engineer.

Just learning the language isn’t enough, I feel the people are so different when they speak a different language, so much so that even their sense of humor is different. You should start looking already, migration takes time and money, you will have to plan way ahead of the time. Plus, good opportunities come to people who look for them.

Yeah, lots of jokes can be translated literally... but they don't really make much sense because the culture is so different.

My friend was telling me that he thinks English is a great language for comedy but it can be very ambiguous, which allows you to set up expectations and then break them. He said German is much more rigid and so lots of that comedy doesn't really work.

Yeah and how people perceive jokes depend on how the person is saying it, anyone not very fluent in English might think he is being funny but might end up being very offensive after all. Also its not about translating sometimes, different cultures have jokes that would be something like “inside joke” to them. And if a foreigner is listening to them he would probably think these guys are retarded to be laughing at such silly things.

Also people speaking the same language but from different cultures have different sense of humor. Like Americans and brits, they have totally different sense of humor. Even people from different societies have different sense of humor. Its very important on where and how you were bought up to have the same sort of connection humorously.

Yeah, and the problem with Brits is that often the humour is very sarcastic or dry, so you don't really have a cue from the person telling the joke... because they don't laugh themselves.

I worked at a place where it was almost like a game to ask a really stupid question on purpose, then if someone else answered it they would be the butt of the joke.

I also don't want to think about the number of times I've said something sarcastic (especially when in the US) as a joke, that people probably just think is me being thick!
