Hi Does anyone have experience with rolling the tubes in heat exchangers? Me and my crew we have doubts about the selection of tolerance holes and grooves. How important is the type of pipe and its tolerance? Thanks in advance for your reply
Hi Stanley, It is important to have your tube-sheet's hole diameter tobe within a tolerance +/-. Also, the outer diameter of the tube and wall thickness should bewithin tolerance +/- to achieve a level of accuracy in the "percentage ofwall reduction". As for creating grooves within the tube-sheet hole this onlyimproves the seal. Hope this information helps. Jack @ Thermal Transfer Technologies
Hi Thermal I know about it, very good. We have holes of tube sheet with diameter ⌀26,45 and tolerance +0,05/-0,05 but tubes are ⌀25,7 with tolerance +0,1/-0,1. So we aren't sure about this selection. If you have any experience with similar example of tube rolling in heat exhanger please you advice. Thank you very much for your response
Hi Stanley90! There is a table in API code where in you can see the equivalent groove diameter for stainless steel and carbon steel material. I will get back to you as soon as I've got my reference on this matter.

You should consult the TEMA standard for this. "Special closed fit" is mostly used in e.g. oil industry. TEMA stands for Tubular Exchanger Manufacturer Association. (I have been working at the engineering department of two different heat exchanger manufacturers in the past.)
