Oh my, did you make the design of it by yourself? How long did it take?

And I wonder how much did it cost?

I once made a model airplane, the design was from scratch my design, it also had a retractable landing gear, I was looking for the project pictures to post them here. Sadly, couldn’t find any of it. I am asking my team mates who help me do the simulations if they have any pictures of it. I would like to show it to you all.

It took 3 of us 8 months or so to build the whole thing, including the conceptual design and everything. Including ordering materials from ali express and waiting months for it to get delivered. But it was really worth it. it costed us each about 200 euros over the 8 months to completely build the airplane.

It was cheap because we got a lot of the things from engineering labs and never gave them back. Things like Arduinos, RC and a lot of glue.

Yes, I design it in SolidWorks superimposed on top of the photo.
To begin with, I had to design and make a device for bending pipes:
      IMG_20180331_231930.jpg
      It took about 16 hours.
Then I made the necessary parts on turning machine, it took another 8 hours.
then I made a frame of metal-plastic pipes for fitting, then use these pipes as patterns I bent pipes and steel and I welded a frame. It took another 8 hours.
Then painting and installation 2 hours
I had to make a new stud for the strength class 12.1

Total: about 40 hours and 60$ on materials.
      Now it looks like this:

It is interesting to look at your plane)
I am now thinking about a grand project, but so far I have no time for it and me need about $ 3000 for this.
I think to build a quadcopter that can lift approximately 100kg of cargo to a height of 10,000m.
I think to use this to launch a probe with a video camera to an altitude of 20-25,000m.
The idea is not only to raise a small rocket to this height but also to accelerate it to a speed of 600-700km / h.
It is necessary to calculate and model a lot, so far there is no time for it)

Oh yeah, I see. They are circular parts welded to smaller flat plates right? I thought they were single parts milled from a block of metal.

Quadcopter idea sounds amazing! Would it be battery powered? Or am I crazy for even thinking that?

Yes, it should work on battery, it is quite doable, but it will have large sizes)) In any case, calculations are needed and then tests))

Now practical ceiling for rotary-wing machines 11 000m
      Practical maximum speed 850 km / h
I have a couple of ideas how to transcend these characteristics but at the same time it will reduce the efficiency of the propeller

So you'd take off vertically but then transition to forward flight?

My (rusty) understanding is that because the air is thinner up there you need more airflow over your aerofoil, but then the speed of your rotor spin gets limited by the rotor tip going supersonic?
