If anyone is reading this in the future then the 411.95 driver helped with my issues. There are still occasional issues but this seems much better and I'm only occasionally getting the 'full screen crash' issue.
Also, my GPU usage when using Solidworks is now more like 20-50% typically, whereas with the old drivers it was more like 1-5%, so that indicates to me to something has definitely changed for the better!
