As we approach market readiness, we require an experienced mechanical/manufacturing engineer (or equivalent) who is extremely well-versed in machining and fabrication techniques and machine production. The main focus of the role is to help build a reliable and high quality supply chain for machine parts, include detailed assessment of supplier capabilities in relation to meeting design and quality specs for machined components. The incumbent will act as the liaison between procurement/design/supplier to ensure the optimal design and quality level of all machined parts used in machine production. Experience with the design of machine components is a definite asset, as this role will advise Mechanical Designers regarding the best design approach for individual components. JOB DESCRIPTION: Reports to: Procurement Manager Position Summary: Support the Engineering and Purchasing departments through the design and procurement of machine parts and equipment, liaising with global suppliers to build and optimize the supply chain. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities: Work closely with the Engineering department to best determine processing and manufacturing requirements for machine parts and fabrications, inclusive of advising on the design specifications Source and evaluate potential machining suppliers, assessing facilities and equipment; production processes and capabilities; lead times; quality; knowledge base; and overall fit with Athena Develop and maintain effective relationships with suppliers to facilitate business transactions and timely issue resolution Monitor overall vendor performance, quality, and on-time delivery, addressing any issues and ensuring corrective action Some domestic and international travel is required Skills and Competencies In-depth knowledge of machining and fabrication techniques Demonstrated ability to build and maintaining strong business relationships Proven negotiation and issue resolution skills Oral and written communication skills Ability to organize and manage tight deadlines Team player Education/Experience Engineering degree or technical diploma (or equivalent) and at least 5-7 years of in-depth experience in specialty machining and fabrication Experience with machine production would be definite asset
