My heart says I would be concerned but my head says that AI/robots are already a part of our lives and we dont always realise. I read somewhere that some tube trains in London are unmanned - is that right? I think the biggest fear for people is not being in control incase something was to go wrong?
It wouldn't surprise me if some subway trains are unmanned (although the Tube drivers have an infamously strong union so maybe not the London ones). I agree about people not feeling in control. It's like aircraft that can technically land themselves much more safely than people, but the passengers would never accept that yet. Maybe a generation that grows up with electric cars won't see it as an issue. That's another interesting tangent though - things that we find strange or novel, because they're relatively new, but that young kids just accept as normal. For example, I can easily remember a time before mobile phones and internet, yet most kids probably could barely imagine that now!
In dubai and Doha there are trains running automatically without any drivers. And that is not an issue either. People are happily travelling in them. They don’t mind it at all. Airplanes can and do land themselves already. The pilots are just there to take a lot of money, of course they do work a lot and they do put their reputation on line if anything goes wrong. So I guess they are worth it. I wonder what we will later in our lives that would be just a norm for the kids in future. Hyperloops would be one for sure. I guess travelling in pods or something like that in the sci-fi movies would be a norm. Also farming using insects for protein, instead of animals. Not much cultivation of rice and lentils. Families Living in houses smaller than 5m^2, having no backyards and probably they wouldn’t know what BBQ is.
I apologize, it's almost a reaction at this point. While it's not as monumentally dumb as solar roads, Hyperloop is a patently bad idea. Just sayin'
Hahaha, solar roads... I will never know hoe that got so much traction (no pun intended!). It's even worse than that bus in China that was supposed to drive 'on top' of cars, but couldn't turn corners!
Oh yeah I remember that one, the bus in China looked bad too. and then there was one that had an airplane crashing and from the back of the airplane, the fuselage or the passenger compartment (I don’t remember which exactly) shoots out. And then lands safely on the ground using parachutes. And people were so convinced that this idea would work.
Oh yeah, I remember that plane one. Have you seen the one where the fire engine turns into a massive drone? It's truly amazing(ly bad)
