i usually use catia ,sometimes i also use ug for communicating with my teammates ,all of my teammates use ug
i think catia is a very powerful software for auto and plane
i am a student major vehical,i always using autocad to clear my idea in my primary designs
      i study in china
in china, there are many companies use pro/e and ug since they cost less
catia is a advanced 3D software,it has many modules ,such as part design ,assemble ,sketch ,engineering drawing, appearance design, analysis, dmu, and so on
      so i choose catia
but if work in china ,you must have the ability to use ug proficiently

CATIA is great.... if you are working in a big company that own a sufficient number of licences for its workforce...

When I was working at a DS plant I didn't realize that until...

Nothing his more frustrating than planing some dimensioning on Xls or MhtLab/MthCad then hanging a couple of hours the time the DMU licences is freed by the IT department as the last guy working on the module forgot to power off is computer before leaving for a week holidays.
Then after sweating for hours to make your model works trough a dozen of CatPart and some nasty programing find yourself helpless late in the evening as all your colleague are gone and the only remaining GAS/EST modules after budget cuts is used by the only other engineer working late in the compay :| ;)

Yes SW is a poor lightened copy of CAT but it comes out of a single pack (nearly)

The futur is in multipysics (I am praising for years coupled physics and Fourrier eq)

Despite we are automation company and we use SW, the best 3D modeler is for sure CATIA.
I can not imagine doing complex kinematic relations on any other software than SW. But we do design also a lot of plastic parts and injection molds and I must admit that SW lacks pure modeling issues.
SW has great user interface, intuitive work flow but it is not intended to be modeler.
So my vote on this question went to CATIA.

i know many would question this but the depth of functionality that Pro/E offers is unmatched

Well it looks like SolidWorks has smashed the competition in this poll. Any further thoughts from anyone?

I understand the name changed to "CoCreate" and is now available as a separate module under Creo (Proe) as a Direct Modeller (No history tree).

One Space changed to Space Claim and is now Creo / Direct (No model history) and is interoperable with Creo/Parametric

"Solid designer", "One space Designer", "CoCreate" or "Creo Elements/Direct". The only explicit 3D design tool I know.
Features-free and direct design methodology... you don't have to worry about "parents-child relations"; yet supports full product data management capabilities. Especially useful when the product designs change quit often.

      Hi

The most powerful programs are NX and Catia. They have the best of almost everything: assemblies, fluid simulation, CAM, Class-A Surfaces...
And between them I much prefer NX. Catia has a very messy and old-fashioned looking and crashes very often, and needs much much much more space and resources but there is a lot of marketing behind it.
Many companies are using Catia and don't want to change because is very expensive and dangerous to train their employees.

If you don't need something so big nor working in a big team you may prefer something simpler but enough for most people.
Among these easier programs I would choose Solidworks (good if you want to find a job) or Spaceclaim (newer but very nice and fast).
