If you are responsible in introducing your products to emerging markets, what do you think are the major challenges involved in designing products for emerging markets?

Hi friend, from my point of view, there are three factors important for emergine market.
      1-Brand recognization
2-Define the price according to local incoming
3-Locoliztion,which means redesign our product according to locoal habits
      just some ideas

If you are designing products for emerging markets, I would consider following factors into account:
      1. Localization
      2. Government regulations
      3. Industrial standards
      4. Know your competitor's footing
      5. Manufacturing ecosystem
      6. After sales support

      I would consider the following:
      1) Cost: MOST IMPORTANT
      2) Reliability: Customer will most likely not pay for over designs and weak design may hurt your brand image
      3) Government Regulations
      4) How to avoid copying or reverse design.

      Apaar and Kelvin,
Very interesting points on product design considerations for entering emerging Market. Especailly when on designs products for B2B market in an emerging market, understanding the ecosystem where the product is going to function in a industry plays a vital role. A proven design in one product may not fit well for the same need in an emerging market like India. Localisation plays a great role. For one to be successful, understanding the existing competition and meeting the unmet needs can make a huge differentiation

Kevin made a good point, the brand recognization is most important in the traditional sales channel, but for the B2C market, i think the pricing is most important in China.

Brand recognition is one of the major things. Promote your product and make people aware of it. Analyze the market and identify which people could be potential customers

For designing i think the biggest challenge is trying to design something that no one has ever seen or thought of before that is cheaper, has greater longivity and is virtually maintenance free. We had the same problem with some of our crusher blade designs here in Japan but now perfected we now produce the worlds top jaw crusher and trimming machines etc. If inventors these days would focus on new and original ideas, patent those ideas and then implement them into the worlds companies it would generate so much more efficiency in what we are producing today! I hope all young inventors, engineers and even factory managers and CEO`s are willing to expand in emerging markets. Chances for profits are endless as we have seen here at YUATSUKI with our runnerbreakers. This is not a sales blurt but just using our companies to show how a simple patented design can change and improve any industry. Good Luck Everyone!
Basic factors are running cost, labor, power, speed and maintenance efficiency and not to forget environmental impact as everyone loves a green machine.
