Hey I would like to know..what is best for making washers...whether progressive or compound die??? If progressive is better..then how to control the center out and flatness????
But, if the production is in bulk then how to handle it with compound tooling..say around 100000 pcs per month
I think, for small volume orders compound die is better, but for bigger volumes then progressive die is best. You can control the center out and flatness by making your pressure pad strong enough to prevent warpage during the reverse stroke of the power press machine.
For washers, of course, it is much more economical with progressive die stamping, it is fast in production and precision can be guaranteed, for flatness, you can add one step to press the part and achieve your flatness.
If your need is mass quantity, then you will have to use the progressive die, you can control the centering of the washers by making your die accurate, having an accurate dowel pin stopper, the punches and the lower dies are sharp, the pressure pad has sufficient holding pressure to hold down the strip, etc. If the need is in small quantities only , then the compound die is better since you can control the center as the dies are concentric,,,
Not really, because if it is a compound die your burrs from trimming and piercing are in opposite direction,,,
