I have the same problem, I would very much like to hear the "long" version of your problem and solution. I too cannot open any parts regardless of format .sldprt, .step, .iges originating anywhere, my own files, downloaded files, files from a colleague. and a series for updates, uninstall/reinstall, etc. have been zero help. Very frustrating. I'm glad to hear you found a solution, and hopefully it applies to me too.

      Hi adarnton,

First, I should let you know that this solution worked only temporarily. The problem was deeply rooted in Windows (at some point, for example, I couldn't even use windows update, or even open the task manager, all because of .NET Framework), and eventually I had to end up taking more serious measures, I used method 2 here. I didn't lose any file but I did have to reinstall some software afterwards, before doing this I completely removed SW and I reinstalled it after Windows was repaired.

Maybe your problem is different, and you might be more lucky just by doing what solved my problem provisionally. Keep in mind that these steps below were my last resort before reinstalling Windows, so make sure you have tried other options to fix .NET Framework, if none works, then try the following:

      1. Download the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool
      2. Run "sfc /scannow" from cmd with admin privileges (check the link to know how to use this tool)
      3. Reboot in safe mode
      4. Apply the cleanup tool (select all versions)
      5. Rename the folder that contains the corrupt file (that showed up in the sfcdetails file) to "foldername-old"
      6. Restart and install .NET Framework 4.5 (not in safe mode)

      Hope this helps!

Good luck, I know this problem can be very frustrating and time consuming.
