Inspection of components with intricate internal cooling designs typically requires a combination of CT imaging and slice-by-slice interpretation of resulting images by specialized Non-Destructive Evaluation engineers. Jet engine turbine blades are critical components operating in extreme conditions, whereby failure during flight is not an option. Analyzing defects is therefore essential.

Simpleware Custom Modeler makes this inspection easier by assessing turbine blade production CT data to determine the presence of defects and internal critical measurements such as wall thickness. Ground truth data based on expert knowledge is combined with machine learning to create a customized system to enhance, rather than replace established inspection processes, and provides inspectors with the location of defects to be assessed.
